Stop Gavin's Predators

Newsom-Appointed Parole Board is Releasing Dangerous Sex Offenders – Demand Action Now!

The Predators Released by Newsom's Board

Gregory Lee Vogelsang (57)

Current Age: 57

Year of Crime: 1995–1997

The Crime: Vogelsang is a convicted sexually violent predator who molested at least six boys between the ages of 5 and 11 in Citrus Heights. He used grooming tactics to gain the trust of the boys’ parents by inviting the children for sleepovers, buying them gifts, and taking them on outings before sexually abusing them. He was convicted on nearly 30 counts of kidnapping and lewd acts with children. Investigators found he kept items belonging to his victims for sexual stimulation. At his parole hearing, Vogelsang admitted he is still primarily attracted to boys aged 5 to 11 and that as recently as 2020 he continued to masturbate to fantasies about young boys. Psychological evaluations showed he poses a greater risk to the public than 80% of other sexual offenders.

The Sentence: Sentenced to 355 years to life.

Time Served: He has served 27 years.

Time Remaining on Sentence: 328 years to life.

Scheduled Release: The parole board recently granted his release under Newsom’s Elderly Parole Program.

David Allen Funston (64)

Current Age: 64

Year of Crime: 1995–1996

The Crime: Funston is a serial child predator convicted of 16 counts, including the kidnapping, rape, and sexual assault of multiple children in the Sacramento area. Funston specifically switched to targeting young children—some as young as 4 and 5—after a previous conviction for sexually assaulting an adult woman in Colorado, calculating that children would be less likely to identify him. Working as a marketing associate by day, he would lure children into his vehicle using candy and Barbie dolls. In one horrifying case, he kidnapped a 5-year-old Russian immigrant with limited English, sexually assaulted her, and abandoned her 50 miles from her home in rural El Dorado County. In another deeply disturbing case, he beat a 7-year-old girl, stuffed her underwear down her throat when she began to scream, and continued to rape her. The judge at his sentencing condemned the sheer terror he inflicted, calling Funston “the monster parents fear the most”. During a September 2025 parole hearing, Funston openly admitted to commissioners that he is still sexually attracted to female children and had pedophilic fantasies about an 8-year-old girl as recently as 2021.

The Sentence: Sentenced to three life terms.

Time Served: He has served just over 25 years.

Time Remaining on Sentence: Three Life Terms.

Scheduled Release: The parole board recently granted his release under Newsom’s Elderly Parole Program, a law requiring an inmate to be at least 50 and have served 20 continuous years. (Note: He is currently being held on newly filed charges in Placer County for a 1996 assault to halt his immediate release).

Roberto Antionio Detrinidad (39)

Current Age: 39

Year of Crime: 2013

The Crime: Detrinidad is an HIV-positive felon who committed a horrific home invasion rape in San Francisco. He spotted a woman through her window, targeted her, and broke into her apartment building using a piece of plastic to jiggle the lock. In the middle of the night, he entered the home of the sleeping woman, pulled down her pajamas and underwear, and sodomized her in her own bed. Detrinidad bragged at his parole hearing that the horrific assault was his “Super Bowl of crime” and the act that was “gonna be the thing that made me finally feel like a man”. He later admitted he lied during his trial by initially claiming the victim had consented.

The Sentence: Sentenced to life in prison.

Time Served: He has served only 11 years.

Time Remaining on Sentence: Life sentence.

Scheduled Release: The parole board has granted him parole. He is scheduled to walk free as early as May 5, 2026.
